HDM's 1st Annual Winter Workshop!

We are very exited to present our 1st Annual Winter Workshop this Saturday, December 11th!

This JP Ballet and Level III Student Showcase will display the talents and dedication of dance of our students.

This performance will represent all of our dance disciplines. Modern is performing an inventive number featuring the music of Yann Tiersen. The Musical Theater students are going to "let their freak flag wave" with a dance choreographed from the music of Shrek the Musical. And Justin Bieber's "Somebody to Love" will provide the background for Hip Hop's intricate performance.

The Winter Workshop will also feature the JP PreBallet students, a Mambo number from Ballroom, and solo performances from our JP Division I dancers.

We are proud to host this event in honor of our wonderful students. Anyone is welcome to join us in this celebratory performance free of charge. Please contact the school to reserve seats.

Nutcracker Field Trips in December

With the first touches of snow staring to fall along the Hudson, it is clear that Winter has arrived.

Nothing else embodies the Holiday season more than The Nutcracker. And what better way for our school to celebrate this time of year with our families than to go see the performance?

This past Sunday we went to go see the New York City Ballet with some of our older students. The Nutcracker is wonderfully accessible for children and is a fun show to watch. It is especially inspirational for our students to see the benefit of a professional dance education.

Our second field trip will be December 19th to see the New York Theater Ballet with our younger students. The show is adapted for children and is only an hour long. We are especially excited to meet-and-greet and take pictures with the cast, following the performance!

The faculty and staff love taking part in this growing school tradition with our families. We are looking forward to the 19th!

The Hudson Dance & Movement Work Study Program

Hudson Dance & Movement is proud to present its new Work-Study Scholarship Program!

Paired with the Theatre Department at Hoboken High, Hudson Dance & Movement has selected three students to partake in this program.

We are thrilled to welcome Angelo, Alyssa and Gabriela to the school! These students will take adult classes and semi-private lessons while helping around the school.

With this initiative we hope to make dance more accessible to all of the children of Hoboken.

JP Performance at Hoboken Arts & Music Festival

With the rain (hopefully) gone, we are excited to spend the day outside tomorrow at the Hoboken Arts & Music Festival!

This annual, community tradition is fun for residents and visitors of Hoboken. Food vendors, artists, and performers will cover Washington Street between the streets of 1st and 6th. We will have a stand at the festival near the Kidz Zone around 3rd Street.

We are so proud and excited to announce that this year, our Junior Professional Division I ballerinas will be performing at the festival. The students will dance the Virgina Reel, a character piece. The performance will take place on the 3rd Street Stage at 3:40pm.

We hope that all of our families will stop by and visit and see the performance! Have a wonderful first  Fall weekend!

HDM is Going Green!

Maybe it's been all the rain lately, but we've been thinking a lot about the environment. We've decided it's time that we did our part to keep the grass a little greener, the air a little cleaner, and the pouring rain a little less acid-y.

We are dedicated to maintaining a healthy space for our families and now we're doing the same for our environment. We're going GREEN, people!

We're with Michael Pollan on this one and are going to implement a series of small changes, one-by-one, to gradually develop a habit of environmentally friendly business and living.

Goal #1: Decrease our bottled water consumption and disposable cup waste. Whenever possible, we are asking that our students bring reusable water bottles with them to class, preferably filled with tap water (we will always provide cups and water in case anyone needs to hydrate).

We are so excited about this new initiative. Please feel free to contact the school if you have any fun ideas for us or any questions. Thank you so much for your support!

Did you know...

  • Tap water is distributed through an energy-efficient infrastructure. Bottles water, however, must be transported longer distances, burning massive amounts of fossil fuels.*

  • Over 1.5 million barrels of oil annually are used to create plastic bottles. This could fuel approximately 100,000 American cars for an entire year.*

  • Over 6.5 million trees were cut down to make 16 billion paper cups for US consumers in 2006. This process used over 4 billion gallons of water and resulted in 253 million pounds of waste. **

Hudson Dance & Movement 2010-2011 has begun!

The 2010-2011 school year for HDM is up and running! We could not be more thrilled with our students this year. We are offering more classes that ever and could not be happier with the turn out.

Our Modern and Hip Hop Programs have grown with our student body and are strongly led by Meg and Melissa, respectively. Modern, with its roots in Ballet, is an expressive dance form with our students learning to be inventive with their bodies. Hip Hop is energetic and athletic discipline with fun, contemporary music.

Musical Theater is being taught by the talented Josh and our newest faculty addition, Arielle. They are looking forward to a year full of animated singing, dancing and acting with their students. Their lively curriculum is full of jazz dance and Broadway character.

As always, Bethany, Laura, and Colleen are the triple threat that instructs our Ballet Program, ages 3 to 13. All certified Ballet teachers, these instructors employ visual, audio, and kinesthetic methods to give our students a solid technical foundation in Ballet.

We are still offering enrollment in all of our classes should a child want to participate in a free trial class! Please feel free to call the school at any time to schedule a trial class 201.683.4350.
